Bacon-wrapped hot dogs are often called danger dogs. The original “danger dog“ is made by wrapping a hot dog in bacon and then deep-fried. Most likely it’ll be topped with mayo, grilled peppers, onions, pico de gallo, and if you like, grilled jalapeños.
Why are they called danger dogs?
The name came from the fact that these are cheap food that’s sold by unlicensed street vendors in Mexico. Especially in Tijuana outside the nightclubs.
Danger dogs are the kind of thing one might eat after a little too much imbibing. This street food became so popular in Southern California that it actually became LA’s official hot dog.
