RECIPE TIPS
Tomatoes. The flavor of this sauce comes from the tomatoes. I use canned San Marzano tomatoes. For authentic Italian pizza sauce, make sure they are certified D.O.P.
Garlic. Fresh garlic or one teaspoon of jarred garlic.
Oregano. I use dried oregano in this recipe. IIf you have fresh available, use one tablespoon.
Salt. Use kosher salt or fine sea salt.
Olive Oil. Extra virgin olive oil is best in this recipe.
Recipe Variations
Spicy pizza sauce. If you are looking for a little more heat, add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes to this recipe.
Greek pizza sauce. Roasted red peppers are a great addition to this recipe if you want to make a Greek pizza with kalamata olives, Greek Chicken, and red onions.
Thick pizza sauce. If you are looking for more of a Sicilian pizza sauce or Chicago pizza sauce, add one small can of tomato paste, one grated onion, and one tablespoon of sugar.
