Caramelize the onions. Slice the onions in half and then in quarters. Slice them thin and add the onions to a heavy skillet with the butter. Cook them on medium heat until they are golden brown.
Add the sour cream and the cream cheese. Make sure the cream cheese is at room temp. I usually let the onions cool for a half-hour or so before I add in the sour cream and cream cheese. I mix everything together. in the skillet.
Season. Add the dried onion, the finely chopped parsley, and the Worcestershire sauce.
Mix. Mix together until everything is well blended.
Serve. Serve with crinkle cut kettle chips or your favorite kind of potato chips.

RECIPE TIPS
Ingredient Notes
Onions. Any white or yellow onion works for this onion dip recipe. Yellow onions and sweet onions will give the dip a sweeter flavor.
Unsalted butter. You will be caramelizing the onion in a little bit of butter.
Sour Cream & Cream Cheese. Daisy sour cream is usually my go-to brand. The cream cheese I'm less picky about.
Seasonings. Fresh parsley, onion powder, and salt and pepper.
Worcestershire sauce. Adds a little umami.
Recipe Variations
Variation 1: Add in one diced shallot and 1/4 cup of fresh chopped chives. The addition of then uncooked shallot and fresh chives gives you a contrast of the caramelized onion flavor and fresh onion flavor. Super yummy.
Make it spicy: Add in 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper and/or a little sriracha.
Make it with mayo. You can substitute 1 cup of mayo for the cream cheese. Sour cream is necessary but if you don't have cream cheese on hand, mayonnaise is a good substitute.
