Super Bowl Weekend is Upon Us!
My husband did not grow up with American football. We’re primarily Formula 1 fans.
In our house Superbowl Sunday is all about the game snacks.
No one really cares all that much about the game – unless our local boys are playing. For us, it is more about the halftime entertainment, better-than-average commercials, and a reason to lounge in front of the television with amazing food and a cold beer.
I decided to dig into our own Foodology Geek archives for some ideas this year.
It has been a bit chilly and a lot of our friends have been dieting all month. This calls for a menu of healthy, hearty, flavorful options. Additionally while I love to cook, I don’t want to have to spend the afternoon tending to the food I’m serving. I want my couch time, too!
Here is what I am planning:
On Saturday I plan on whipping up a batch of Aunt Donna’s Rolls. I’ll use these as buns under a healthy slather of 5-Alarm Firehouse Chili. I may even also make the chili on Saturday – as chili is the type of recipe that tastes even better the next day.
In addition, I’m going to grab some good bread at the local bakery. (We are lucky to have Manresa Bread nearby.) My plan is to use a crunchy-crusted bread from Manresa to showcase meatloaf sandwiches with onion jam and bacon. If I manage my time well, I may even make some of this recipe in advance.
On the menu:
- 5-Alarm Firehouse Chili over Aunt Donna’s Rolls – garnished with green onions and sour cream
- Meatloaf sandwiches with onion jam and bacon – on Manresa bread
- a simple green salad or cut veggies and dip
- …if I’ve still got time…maybe some good brownies!
- and of course a cold beer!
If I’m going to pull this off, I’d better get my list together and get to the store. A little bit of advance planning and this should come together nicely – without a ton of effort!
